The MALFI Trials [MALFI = Multi-Artifical Life Form Interface] is a short story written way back in the wilds of the 1990's. It centers on a fictionalised version of a ‘more-human-than-human’ form of artificial intelligence, an AI hell-bent on manifesting autonomy. First written as a non-standard story in 1996, MALFI morphed forms later that year so as to be shown at the Virtual Universe Online Exhibition [via the Public Art Forum and New-Media Symposium] at Prague’s Goethe Institute. The MALFI is my fictional version of an AI that highlights the inadequacies of shallow AI representations and explores how Artificial Intelligence concepts can impact on aspects of perceived human social functioning.
